A Tribute to the First Science Fiction Movie

Partially inspired by today’s shirt at Teefury, and partially because I write in the same genre, I wanted to give my respect and pay tribute to the first science fiction movie ever. I’m not reviewing it for how it compares to movies nowadays, nor am I going to analyze it for any psychological undertones.

The movie is called A Trip to The Moon, by French magician and filmmaker, Georges Melies, in 1902. There had been movies made earlier, and the term “special effects” was still a new word in many people’s vocabulary. While he went on to create hundreds more fantasy films, A Trip To The Moon was always his bestseller.
With the copyright expired, everyone can now legitimately own a copy of this movie, which lasts only 12 minutes. Or you can watch here in the blog.
