I”m a huge fan of Avatar: Last Airbender. I own two of the seasons of the show from Nickelodeon, and I got super-excited when I found out that there’s going to be a spin-off this November called the Legend of Korra.
This show gets even cooler when rumors started spreading that there was going to be much more technology, and a greater appeal to the Steampunk genre.
Then we started getting facts. We found out that Korra is the next Avatar (after Aang from the first series) and that she has already mastered water-bending and has been taught air-bending from Tenzin, who is Aang and Katara’s son. Seychelle Gabriel, who played Yue in the live action movie by M. Night Shyamalan (Don’t go see it) has already been scripted to play a still unknown to the public character named Asami.
Then at Comic Con this past month, even more amazing info has been released, including info about my favorite character, Toph. (She’s in the second and third season, blind earth-bender) She’s still alive and well, and teaching elite metel-bending (a form of earth-bending) to police officers, like a SWAT team. Her daughter is even chief of police.
Comic Con then decided to drop the bomb: A trailer! (here’s the link: http://avatarthelastairbenderonline.com/hdkorratrailerworldwide/ ) From the trailer and the dedicated panel at Comic Con, we find out that there’s a bigger focus on mixed martial arts between the bending classes. This means that the studio hired martial artists, like they did for the Last Airbender. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s even aspects of parkour/ freerunning. Add the two freerunners and two MMA fighters alongside the martial artist from the Last Airbender, Sifu Kisu, and this is shaping up to be epic. Flat out.
